About me:
I am a self proclaimed fashion diplomat. My innate love of the art in fashion propelled me into an 18 year long career in the industry. I should add that I at one time seriously thought about being an actual diplomat, having earned a degree in international politics from Georgetown University. I now find myself comfortable in a place where I use my education to bridge the gap between the art of fashion and the real substance we should demand from the industry. In 2002 I started my own clothing line of high quality wardrobe basics which I expanded into a store front full apparel and accessories lines designed by purposeful fashion artists. The name of my shop in the Short North Arts District of Columbus ,OH is Substance for FASHION CONSCIOUS PEOPLE.

I still manufacture and sell my own line and stay true to my commitment to maintain substance with my style. Since my first sale in September of 2002 I have contributed to non-profit programs that improve education for children in the US.

Carla, thank you for your post. It's refreshing to hear from fellow fashionistas who desire more substance in fashion. Yes fashion is fabulous. It is even more fabulous when we appreciate the art and creative process behind fashion by supporting local artisans in the industry and the boutiques that support them. I also look to support lines that give back to charities and practice sustainable production methods. Check out shopsubstance.com a boutique in the Short North Arts District of Columbus, OH that uses discontinued styles and overstock inventory to design and produce a fabulous new collection every month with one of a kind handwork and couture quality details.
