How would you describe your personal style?
I would say I have a tailored, classic style. I don't like to take my style to extremes, but I like keeping up with fashion and being stylish. I know what I like and what looks good on me, and this is the most important part of being stylish. What designers do you love right now and why?
Habitual, True Religion, Citizens of Humanity... I love jeans. They have taken on a life of their own. I did not used to be able to wear jeans all the time, but now I can dress them up with a tailored Tahari jacket for a sexy, professional feel or do a dressed-down, sporty look with a coat from Helly Hansen (one of my favorites that I first discovered while in Sweden). What are your top 3 fashion fixations for this season?
I love luggage and am always in search of sophisticated, feminine pieces to add to my collection. Your attire and accessories are such important parts of the overall image that you portray when you travel and many people overlook those details. I would love one, (or two, or three) new pieces from this season's Victorinox or Tumi collections. What do you love to shop and why?
Lola Bella in Salt Lake City and having recently moved back to the Bay Area, Canvas in Mill Valley. The most important part about my shopping experience is that the staff creates a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. I want to feel comfortable in allowing myself to be a bit vulnerable when I am trying on clothes. What do you keep store or throw away?
If I haven't worn it in the last year, I usually give it away. I don't like to store clothes. I still have quite a few of my Stanford sweatshirts from when I was in college, I have a favorite pair of Levi's that I have kept forever and I have a T-shirt from Italy that I got 10 years ago and still love. What do you hate?
I hate to see people wearing styles that are not flattering on them; fashion is about flattering your body type. I really hated shoulder pads and I am not a fan of the bubble dresses – anything too puffy tends not to be flattering on most people. What do you wish you could wear but can't?
I would love to be able to wear more short-sleeve tops, but because I have such broad shoulders, they just aren't very flattering on me. Other fashion tips:
It is a good idea to have a fashion conscious person that can give you honest advice about what looks are best for you. For me, it is my highly fashion conscious sister, Susanne, who helps me to keep my wardrobe stylish and up-to-date. She is not afraid to tell me what should stay and what has to go. Know what works for you and know what looks good on you; that is what being fashionable is all about.
