Has all of the media attention on eco-friendly fashion influenced your fashion choices? | 05/01/08 18:05 PM

The media attention has made it easier to make eco-friendly fashion choices, because I now have a much better idea of the choices that are out there. The magazines have done a great job of highlighting designers that are using eco-friendly fabrics and providing information on which fabrics are eco-friendly. There are also tons of online boutiques that offer eco-friendly clothing exclusively, so it takes all of the guess work out of it! As a designer of an environmentally friendly clothing line, even I have learned a lot more about eco-fashion from the media coverage.

I am super excited to learn about new fabrics- and pleasantly surprised with some of the eco-friendly designs. I can totally justify a splurge especially when I am acting environmentally. There are some incredible finds from new designers. Overall- I think it is fantastic that there are such caring individuals that make us look fabulous while we are taking the time to cherish the natural scenery we still can. The best part is that natural fabrics generally are incredibly luxurious and the designers that use them are setting a whole new standard for fashion design.

I think there have been huge strides in the quality of fabrics and styles in eco-friendly fashion. However, I still think we have a long way to go with regard to accessibility. I imagine that in the near future, many stores will have a higher ratio of eco friendly fashion to non-eco friendly fashion. So: because of the lack of accessibility the media attention has influenced my awareness but not my choices yet.

Honestly I am happy to see that the media has made it helpful to find eco-friendly fashion however it hasnt swayed my decision towards buying an item. I think we have awhile to go still before the necessities of fashion are made eco-friendly and priced accordingly. I will say the media has made me aware and I am happy to see that we're headed in an eco-friendly direction !

Ok I will be honest, while I do think that the media attention on eco friendly fashion is awesome....I have just jumped on the green bandwagon a few months ago. I know I'm terrible!!! I have started by using adorable cloth grocery totes, however I will say that moving on to eco-friendly beauty and fashion is my next step!!!

I think it is great that a lot of attention is being put on making everything green, but I personally have never purchased an eco-friendly fashion item. The media attention on this eco era is doing wonders for raising awareness: hybrid vehicles, reusable totes, recycling, and wasting less but I need more convincing that eco-fashion isn't granola and something my inner hippie would wear. I understand that some designers are creating beautiful yet organic pieces but for some reason the cost to save the earth is more than my wallet can take. Maybe when the price goes down, as with most things I may change my mind.

I think the media attention is great, anything that helps expand green living into the community is a good thing. Personally I didn't realize how many good eco-friendly fashion choices were out there until recently. Last year I found a really cute top in Mendocino County that turned out to be made of bamboo. It's really soft and best of all, machine washable. I hope to add more of these type of pieces to my closet.

All of the media attention on project go green will surely continue to have a great impact on the fashion industry with designers following suit, implementing bamboo and seaweed as important sustainable textiles. Aesthetically, I've yet to buy into more than the cute workout clothes that are eco-friendly, or the occasional snappy tee that supports forest re-population, both because I think the designs have to progress a bit, as does the legitimacy of some of the underlying green issues which various designers support.

The media attention to eco-friendly fashion has raised my awareness, but not enough for me to really know which designers are eco-friendly. Furthermore, all "eco" fashion I've seen are plain, boring T-shirts and jeans. "Eco" fashion has not yet, in my opinion, become mainstream enough to encompass a wide variety of brands and looks. When Missoni knits are eco-friendly, then I'll be more interested. Until then, it doesn't fit my style.

I agree that the sustainable textiles are a really helpful and important part of the eco-fashion movement. Bamboo is soft and makes great sheets, and the fashion industry is known as a very wasteful industry, so this new awareness is great. I think that especially in basics like t-shirts, and in things like fibers and dyes, the new options are good choices and the media attention makes them seem stylish and not clunky or ugly (like hippie clogs... nothing eco-fashionable should bring them to mind!)

I have to say when it comes to the "green trend" i'm a lot more focused on beauty products. I feel like the chemicals used in cosmetics are a more imminent danger. I have few qualms about gmo cotton in my t-shirts but am definately more concerned about carcinogens in the makeup i put on my skin every single day. As for clothing, the green trend has not really impacted my choices.

I haven't been influenced by the media on my fashion choices to date. Most of my eco-friendly choices focus on nutrition, beauty products, and household supplies. I have more learning to do as far as eco-friendly fashion and where to find it.
