Would you rent a designer cocktail dress? | 03/14/08 17:03 PM

A friend of mine from business school came up with an idea to start a service renting designer cocktail dresses, shipping, dry cleaning, everything included in the cost. They would also then sell some of the dresses second hand for reasonable prices. Is this something you'd be interested in? If so, how much would you be willing to pay per dress rental?

I would probably prefer buying one but if I really fell in love with a dress i'd rent it for sure. I'd be pretty nervous about any snags and stuff though so it could get kind of complicated when renting dresses with delicate fabrics or detailing. The cost of renting a dress...I not pay anymore than a $100 but of course it depends on the original cost season of the dress.

This is a great idea. It works for "Bag, Borrow or Steal", a website that rents designer bags and fine jewelery and then sells the older items. I think the dress idea is perfect for special occasions, when you want a brand new, fabulous dress every time! I would absolutely rent a designer dress if I found one I liked. In terms of cost, depends on the designer, I'd imagine a range of $100-400.
