Why do women always carry oversize wallets and how particular are you about your wallet? | 01/17/08 05:01 AM

Men almost always have small leather wallets with the barest essentials -- why should it be otherwise for women especially when stepping out for the night. All you really need is your ID, a credit card and some cash. One of the first accessory products that we developed were cardholders -- done in both our signature print and in leather. We originally designed them as a promotional item to giveaway at our various launch parties. Since then, they have taken off and are one of our best selling accessory items. Our customers use them as cardholders but also as mini wallets which they can easily stash in their large day bag and then slide into their evening bag as well. Yet I still get tons of requests to design the perfect wallet. The concept of the "perfect" wallet seems to vary greatly from person to person. If you must have a large wallet, why and what do you put in it? If you were designing the "perfect" wallet, what would it look like?

I have a very large wallet! I don't know why probably because I store too many peoples business cards in it! I agree though men have it easy, i wish I could just grab a tiny wallet with some cash, my ID, and maybe a credit card. Especially when I go out at night! I am tired of giving my husband my ID and cash, especially when he forgets to give me the cash back :)

This is actually a bit of a sore subject for me. I don't really carry a wallet and my credit cards and cash are always flying around my HUGE handbag. I have a tiny credit card holder but I don't bother to stuff my credit cards in it. The perfect wallet? You are right Tracy; it shouldn't be too big. It shouldn't be too heavy. It should be just like a man's wallet that can fit into his back pocket. Not too big, not too small!

I can say that I own a wallet and yes it is in my handbag weighing it down with everything else i don't need! Not sure why I need the wallet as I always am grabbing the debit card and running for the coffee shop. The best wallet is a small envelope like shape that you can attach to your wrist! Not too big ..just big enough for the essentials and maybe a lipgloss. !!

OK, here is a man's point of view. I hate putting a big wallet in my back pocket. Not good for my suit pants and not good on the back. So between my wallet, my checkbook, my phone and my car keys, I started carrying a "Men's European Carry-All", (all you Seinfeld fans know what I mean) until I found a great money clip/credit cardholder from Coach. It's perfect, it fits a few credit cards, business cards and on the back side a money clip. I also love it because it fits in my front pocket. So when I am with my 13 year old son and he does not want to walk around with his Dad carrying a "purse" (not that there is anything wrong with that, Seinfeld fans) I grab my Coach wallet and I am ready to go!

I have a wallet that I use everyday to store my bills, credit cards (way too many), business cards, and change. That alone weighs a ton! So, when I go out for a night on the town, I use a clutch that looks like an envelope, but is pretty much an oversized wallet... the one gretch referred to. My perfect "going out" wallet would have enough room for my gloss, my ID, my keys, my debit card, and even have a little built in mirror.. that's the best! I guess I fall under the heavy traveler category :)

I wish my mid-size wallet was neat and tidy, but alas, it is not! I never seem to find the time to put everything where it belongs, except for my credit cards! I have a fantastic purse that has a ring on one end that slips over my hand and dangles around my wrist. The fabric is fun and catchy, but if it were just a big smaller, I'd use it all the time. I need something just big enough to fit my license, credit card, cell phone and the usual one or two dollars I have stuffed into my change pocket.

My wallet stores everything from store receipts to my kids lastest school pictures. It works for me, except when I need something quick for a night out on the town. I confess, my husband gets stuck with the L&L (license and lipstick) when we go out. I'd love to find a clutch that is easy to take with me that will hold my keys, L&L, credit card, and some cash.
