brandhabit's interview with
Pretty Little Thing NYC

Q: What inspires you to design?
A: I'm inspired by many different things. From animals, to fairy tales, to people and nature. But I'm mostly inspired by NYC-- anything is possible there.

Q: What one word best describes your designs?
A: Ecclectic

Q: If you were to dress one person, who would that be?
A: Gwen Stefani. I just love that she's a tough chic, but a total romantic deep down. I sat next to her at a restaurant once, but i was too shy and starstrck to say anything to her.

Q: Who is your favorite new designer, besides your own collection?
A: I love Jenni Kayne. Her clothes are classic, young and unique all at once.

Q: What bag do you lust for this season?
A: I'm a vintage bag girl. I lust for classic Chanel.

Q: What charitable cause is most important to you?
A: Animal rights and rescue-- always.

Q: What did you do before you became a designer?
A: I was an aspiring journalist. My dream was to work for a fashion magazine and report on all the shows and trends. I like what I do now a lot more. I have the freedom to be creative and it's still within the fashion realm.

Q: What is your secret indulgence (fashion or otherwise)?
A: Ebay, magazines, and i hate to say it, but trashy reality tv.

Designer Lirany Vasquez grew up aspiring to write for fashion magazines. After earning an English degree at the University of Maryland and a start in journalism in Washington DC and Los Angeles, Lirany decided she no longer wanted to write about fashion but instead contribute something to it.
The career switch landed her in New York City in 2003 pursuing a longtime love for jewelry design. There she began apprenticing at one of the country’s top jewelry companies learning every aspect of the business. After a short time she decided to further pursue her passion on her own, and designed a small collection of earrings and necklaces for a friend’s boutique. The collection was a success and Pretty Little Thing was born. Within a year Lirany’s designs were being picked up by other hip boutiques and recognized by the press.
The collection revolves around a group of eclectic charm pieces that are feminine and sexy with an unexpected twist. Lirany mixes elements like glass, wood, metal and semiprecious stones to compliment her whimsical charms. Her pink glass heart with spider necklace and revolver charm earrings have been big hits.
Lirany lives in the East Village of NYC-- the city that inspires her everyday.
