brandhabit's interview with
Doie

Q: What inspires you to design?
A: Most of my inspirations come from trips that I have taken to South East Asia. That part of the world is so beautiful and inspiring to me.

Q: What one word best describes your designs?
A: Staples. I love to be fashionable and look put together, but I have never been super trendy. I try to include pieces that will be able to be worn for more than one season.

Q: Who is your favorite new designer, besides your own collection?
A: I really love Ella Moss. I think that those pieces have the same type of feeling as mine- comfortable and stylish without trying too hard.

Q: What bag do you lust for this season?
A: Reusable grocery bags. The best part is that they cost about $2 and they help save the environment.

Q: What did you do before you became a designer?
A: I worked in advertising.

Q: What is your secret indulgence (fashion or otherwise)?
A: Massages and Pedicures!

Doie was born from the idea that it is possible to be stylish and comfortable while still helping to protect the environment. Each versatile piece is made from a combination of bamboo jersey, an incredibly soft and breathable earth-friendly fabric, and 100% silk trim. The pieces transition seamlessly from lounging to lunching and from day to night. Doie is made from the highest quality fabrics and is produced locally, in New York City.

Doie is named after designer Sara Kirsner’s grandmother, who well into her eighties is still Sara’s style icon. From vintage Calvin Klein coats to tee-shirts from the Gap, Doie is always put together in a chic, individual way. Stylish, sociable and comfortable in her clothes and in her own skin, that is the quintessential Doie woman.

Designer Sara Kirsner is a Marin County, California, native but currently lives in Manhattan. She left San Francisco to attend the Parsons School of Design. After interning for DKNY and Marc Jacobs, and freelancing in the design department at Ann Taylor, she decided to go out on her own and create Doie.

Why Bamboo?

Bamboo is actually a grass and is the fastest growing plant in the world. It can reach its maximum height in 3-4 months and reaches full maturity in 3-4 years. Bamboo is completely sustainable and can be grown without pesticides, and bamboo fiber is 100% biodegradable.

Bamboo fabric is incredibly soft and has a natural sheen to it. It is naturally anti-microbial, which means that the fabric actually prevents bacteria from growing on it, resulting in clothing that remains odor-free longer than other fabrics. It is naturally breathable to help keep you dry and comfortable. Bamboo fabric stays around 2 degrees cooler in hot weather and can also keep you warmer in cool weather. I guess the question should be, “why not bamboo?”
