Q: What inspires you to design?
A: Nature. Ocean. Grandmother's jewelry. Mixing vintage components with current trends.

Q: What one word best describes your designs?
A: Fresh

Q: If you were to dress one person, who would that be?
A: Sienna Miller- she represents the epitome of fashion-forward design. I am constantly forecasting and researching trends to incorporate the next big thing in my designs while giving them a timelessness all the same.

Q: Who is your favorite new designer, besides your own collection?
A: Andrea Fohrman. We share a love for contrasting textures; I especially love her diamonds set in oxidized gold. The result is edgy, vintage-inspired and unexpected.

Q: What bag do you lust for this season?
A: Anything by Tracy Reese!

Q: What charitable cause is most important to you?
A: Oxfam

Q: What did you do before you became a designer?
A: Show Promotion

Q: What is your secret indulgence (fashion or otherwise)?
A: Cosmetics! I love Caudelie skincare and Shu Uemura makeup.

Laura James Jewelry began as a means of self-expression for founder and designer Laura Schmelzer James. Her love for collecting one of a kind antique jewelry propelled her to explore the idea of creating timeless yet trend-setting jewelry unique to each personality that donned it. Laura's desire to own special pieces that no one else would have led her to create a line for herself that was often bought right off of her whenever worn. Drawing inspiration from her love for nature and travels to Asia, Europe and Central America, Laura utilized her background in Fashion and Retail to make Laura James Jewelry a reality. Laura honed her metal fabrication techniques at the esteemed Penland School of Craft and not long after Lucky Magazine came calling to feature Laura James Jewelry in their 2007 December Gift Guide. Most recently 20th Century Fox followed suit and inked Laura James Jewelry for feature in an upcoming Hollywood film.

Laura James Jewelry is handcrafted solely by Laura James. Her affinity for organic stones and materials in addition to vintage crystal, bone, gold and silver are ever present in her collections. In addition to her website, Laura James Jewelry is carried in specialty boutiques nationwide and has been featured in multiple print and online publications.
