gorjana
Born in Yugoslavia to a pastry chef and an engineer, Gorjana naturally became a balance of her influences; imaginative yet structured, eccentric yet simple. Always interested in the details of things, her creativity was spurred at a young age. It was then that the first gorjana pieces were created when the littlest designer made her very own adornments of yarn and buttons, oh so pre-school chic.
At the age of seven, her family moved to Canada and Gorjana quickly adapted to the fast pace lifestyle of North America. Influenced by the rise of eighties pop culture, her impressionable years were spent creating everything from belts to jean jackets while daydreaming to the tunes of famous pop queens in the family’s basement.
By the time Gorjana reached high school, her family had once again transplanted, now to the United States. It wasn’t long before Ford Model & Talent took note and exposed Gorjana to the glamorous, high-fashion world of catwalks and photo shoots. Although she was only in her teens, Gorjana immediately realized the fashion industry would be where her inventive self and business self would one day be in accord.
Upon finishing college, Gorjana decided it was time to create something she could call her own. Armed with a knack for designing, a wicked fashion sense, and a husband with a keen business mind, she knew it was time to take a chance. Thus in 2004, the contemporary jewelry collection gorjana was fashioned.
And with an optimistic innocence only a newlywed couple in their 20s could have, the two hit the road with little more then a single bag of samples and their four-pound Yorkie in tow. No showrooms, no sales reps, they would forge their own way.
And so they did.
Now at the helm of an internationally recognized brand, much is still expected from this designer, because although she is far from the beginning, her journey is still very far from the end.
