Syla by Sylvie Cachay
Q: What inspires you to design?
A:
I really get inspired by all the beautiful women I see from every day moments to being on the beach in St. Tropez...I get moved by beauty and women who are so confident in their own skin and style. It really can be anything a movie a feeling, even dreams
A: Well, I seem always to have a certain type of design that influences me across the bird...those of the twenties and also chinoiserie. I love all the prints! I love kimonos and the vibrant colors. Now everything for me is color and in swimwear prints ar Q: If you were to dress one person, who would that be?
A: I don't think it has to be someone famous that we all know, although of course I wouldn't mind! The person is really any woman out there who is confident and embraces her body and of course she has to love colors! Q: Who is your favorite new designer, besides your own collection?
A: God!...running your own business makes it very hard to keep up nowadays...so many new designers constantly---just like me! Well, I love my friend Alicia Bell's designs, she has such a distinct and beautiful sensibility---so feminine. Q: What bag do you lust for this season?
A: Too many! I practically turn my head the other direction the minute I see one that I think is beautiful...the same way I do with chocolates when I'm in line at the drugstore! Just too tempting!!!! Q: What charitable cause is most important to you?
A: I don't want to lie here, I haven't had many opportunities with charities other than a few donations I've made here and there, but I do know I highly support the arts being taught in our public schools. The idea of art or music being cut out of children' Q: What did you do before you became a designer?
A: I was a student and I was constantly dreaming about becoming a designer. Q: What is your secret indulgence (fashion or otherwise)?
A: Shoes! It doesn't matter if you gained a few pounds---a pair of sexy shoes always looks great (well, as long as the mirror is from the knee down!)...
SYLA is committed to bringing luxury, sophistication and high design to stylish women worldwide. Under the direction of designer Sylvie Cachay, SYLA breathed new life into swimwear, offering a “lifestyle” collection of swimsuits and beach accessories designed to meet the fit, quality and style demands of fashion-forward customers.
The word Syla (“sea-la”) originates from two sources – a combination of the designer’s name and the name of her good friend, Layla. The name also pays tribute to Sylvie’s mom, Sylvia, as well as the influence of the sea. Fusing the Art-Deco era with an 18th century Chinoiserie influence, the debut collection modernizes ancient elements with the use of bold, vibrant patterns, taking swimwear to a new level. This exclusive new collection includes swimwear in a variety of silhouettes, allowing women to choose from several options resulting in a fit that is personalized and highly flattering.
After several years of designing swimwear at Victoria’s Secret, Sylvie began to identify the need in an overstaurated market for high-end, chic, yet wearable swimwear with clean lines and distinctive patterns. In 2006, Sylvie set out to realize her dream and after painstaking research and many long hours the SYLA collection was ready to be unveiled.
“I designed this line with women like myself in mind,” says Sylvie Cachay. “I was looking for swimwear that didn’t exist. I wanted beautiful, unusual colors and striking patterns and these elements seemed reserved exclusively for sportswear. Basically I wanted my swimsuit to reflect my everyday style aesthetic,” adds Sylvie. “The way I see it, you’re at your most vulnerable in your swimsuit. But if you’re comfortable and feel sexy and in control, you’re going to be beautiful on the beach.”
Sylvie Cachay brings industry expertise and an unparalleled passion for individualism to the SYLA line. Her devotion to superior fit, imaginative design and unique patterns, prints and colors is apparent i
