I was raised in a historical and Victorian area of Brooklyn, which to me always had a sense of past grandeur.
My grandmother was my first fashion icon. Her sewing skills, use of accessories and beauty advice enabled her to be thrifty, yet still impeccably dressed.

My family was more conventional in their style sense and I was "dragged" on monthly shopping trips to Saks Fifth Avenue. This proved frustrating at times, as I was not permitted to buy clothes considered “trendy.” So, I decided to make my own! I was inspired by my grandmother to learn to sew by hand, and later on a sewing machine that I received for my 13th birthday.

Then it was off to college. After a very academic and esoteric Ivy League experience, where I focused on religion, language and Middle Eastern studies, I was drawn back into the world of fashion.

I attended the one-year program at FIT concentrating on sportswear design. I incorporated my newly learned hand knitting skills into my work, and won the Critic’s Award for my final project based on architectural origami.

Sensing a need for a women’s collection that embodied a sense of whimsy and fun, Jamie Kreitman® was born in 1991. I created knitted buttons and trims - signature elements featured on my tailored knit jackets and sweaters.

A few years later, I introduced T-shirts and fleece pieces with knitted embellishments. This was in response to the casual dress revolution. As a result of this trend, I coordinated flip-flops with the apparel collection in 2001. After this success, I created ballet shoes to be comfortable, casual yet fashionable and glamorous. It became my mission to prove that you can still be a glamour girl with your feet firmly planted on the ground!

Today I currently live in the New York metropolitan area with my family and Coton de Tulear dog in a Victorian style home reminiscent of my childhood.
My ultimate goal at the end of the day is to relax with a good book and divine white chocolate. A simple pleasure!
