CEO First Blog

Okay, this is it: I am starting a blog.

I am Carla Morton the CEO of a new online fashion company called BrandHabit and for the purpose of this blog, I am going to write about:


  1. My personal experience in the fashion industry. (I spent 10 years as a fashion jewelry designer. I worked for a fashion house at the tender age of 19 in New York, in the mid 80’s… gosh that dates me a bit, doesn’t it?)

  2. My observations about what is happening in the fashion industry: What I see coming down the pike for next season and what trends are capturing a wide audience (for better or for worse)

  3. Items I love or lust after for the season and collections I love etc.

  4. People I love in the fashion industry… just because I think it is so nice to meet real people in this business and talking about wonderful people feels good.

  5. Finally, I might write about my experiences of becoming a CEO for an internet start-up… (we’ll see).


Let me first say that I don’t personally dress in cutting edge fashion. I like to stay up to date but I hesitate to wear things that :

  1. Don’t look good on me

  2. Don’t look good on anyone

  3. Are too youthful for my age (40)

  4. Make me look like I am trying too hard


Also, I want to note that I am into small boutique brands. This is where you will find information on the cool, cutting edge, "in the know" brands. I am going to start light and easy….Here are some things I have personally bought this season and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I’ll sprinkle some personal experiences in throughout as I talk about the items.

My sister and I have just signed on as a retail account, Spoiled Chics the Boutique. We also are a small Boutique, we do our own buying,selecting the things we love, following our own sense of style! We started out as a home party business which we did for 2 years, and after being over-booked with 2-3 month waiting lists for parties, we decided to bite the bullet and set up shop in Sewickley, a quaint little upscale Village west of Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania.


I have a few choice mottos that I live by:
"If you do what you love, you will never have to work a day in your life."

"First dive off the mountain, then grow your wings on the way down."

Anyway, Best of Luck in your new endeavor. We support you in everyway and are cheering you on to success.
