Lester's Four NYC locations
My younger sister and I have completely opposite taste in style. She is boho chic (sometimes minus the chic courtesy of her time spent at University of Vermont) while I tend to lean towards classic and casual structured pieces. She loves audacious, eclectic jewelry while I shy away from accessories. And her idea of shopping is raiding my closet or suitcases for items that I neglect or mean to donate.
It’s not that she doesn’t enjoy spending money, because like her big sis, she has receipt sized trophies wadded in her wallet lauding her spending ability, but it’s her apprehension about shopping that curtails any ability to procure a decent wardrobe.
I can’t diagnose my sister’s aversion to boutique shopping. Yes, yes, I understand her apprehension about spending $48 on a Splendid t-shirt when she could simply run to Target and pick up one for more than half the price. Many people share the same affliction that she suffers from and in today’s consumer run society I am sure there will soon be a way to diagnose and treat people who cower in the doorways of boutiques. For now they are relegated to department stores.
Fear not! All is not lost. Lester’s, with four locations in NYC, has been a family owned and operated business since 1948. I’m hesitant to put a label on it because it’s not a big chain or a warehouse flooded with fluorescent lights and linoleum, yet it’s not a tiny boutique.
What I love about Lester’s is that is a completely accessible store for those who are intimidated by the perception of boutiques as high end, buzz in only, museum like boutiques. It’s a bridge for people like my sister, who have the potential to shop well, but are slightly intimidated by designer labels and brands.
Lester’s carries Ella Moss, Splendid, Ted Baker, Joe’s Jeans, Robert Rodriguez, and Danang. For the whole family. Who ever stepped into a boutique and expected to walk away with stuff for the kids and hubby? Though the function of Lester’s serves busy moms and dads who need one stop shopping, it’s still definitely more fashion than function. Stepping into Lester’s should not be confused with taking a family trip to Wal-Mart or Sears at all. It still vends high quality fashion with impeccable customer service, just like boutiques.
If you’re still not convinced, check out Lester’s warehouse with incredible markdowns and sales.
The only way you get good at shopping is by doing it often, this I know for sure. And with four locations and a warehouse, Lester’s is the perfect place to tone and strengthen your shopping muscles!
