Leaf and Petal, Palo Alto, California
I have an ex-boyfriend who used to scour the internet for useless information. Maybe I should rephrase that so it won’t seem as if my old boyfriend was a loser, because he wasn’t, but he just had a weird penchant for spending time on Wikipedia and not on me. . .I should remind myself this is not Dear Abby, this is fashion! And nobody puts fashion in the corner!
Anyways, back to the subject at hand. My old boyfriend, the lover of all things Wiki, once told me where the word “denim” comes from. The fabric of jeans once was actually called Serge, from a region in France called Nimes. Thus, the fabric was named serge de Nimes eventually shortened to Denim.
And oh how we love denim these days! And oh if my old boyfriend could see me now in my new Joes Jeans Honey
from Leaf and Petal he would have wished he didn’t spend so much time on the internet!
Leaf and Petal is an adorable boutique located in Old Town Palo Alto. It’s a cozy boutique with a warm staff that hasn’t had much turnover. Customers know their favorite sales associates by name just as the sales associates know their regulars. Much of the product on the floor, including designers such as Diane Von Furstenburg, Trina Turk, Vivienne Tam, and Elie Tahari is organized by color. The boutique doesn’t often carry designers like Betsy Johnson or Anna Sui and I would be surprised if they did considering they are geared towards a more mature and sophisticated crowd. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t hip! Leaf and Petal carries LaRok (who currently has a hippie inspired tie-dyed dress I’m yearning for)
, an edgy division of the denim company, 7 For All Mankind. Plus, the boutique is a favorite among shoppers because they tend to carry new designers before department stores giving consumers the fashion upper-hand. That’s something I look for as a trend setter.
And as for looking for a new boyfriend. . .I’m not sure I see internet addicts fitting into any upcoming seasons.
keep shopping, i'm sure you'll get over him that way!
